The event has been hosted at the Sociology and Theology Department of Belgorod State University annually since 2007. The Ball is open to any matriculated student from across the Region
The event this year was called the 'Vivaldi Vortex', and was organised by Roman Shurov, leader and choreographer of the 'Inspiration' dance ensemble. The venue is one of the oldest buildings in the city, and this year's celebration was opened by Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, Vice-Rector for Policy and èƵal Affairs, who noted that the inspiration for her lies in the hard work and dedication of the students who organise the event. She added,
“Student's Day is one of the many holidays and occasions that we mark each year. But it is special because it is a celebration of our future, and all the best things about our young people. Give yourselves a pat on the back, but always remember, that it is discipline and diligence that are the hallmarks of a good student.”
The Ball also serves as a showcase for the talents of the participants. The students award prizes to each other for dancing, clothing, helpfulness and the like. This year the University's Trades Union Committee donated 5 crowns for the winners. The 'Belle of the Ball' was Anna Khudasova, who studies at the Sociology and Theology Department.
