Dr Mikhail Pokrovsky, the Director of the Institute, delivered his report to the Council about the work of his colleagues to date. The Institute was set up in 2016 at the Centre for Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research, and has already completed more than 50 studies on the effects of new pharmaceutical drugs. The Institute looks into the general toxicity, specific activity, pharmacokinetics and the bioequivalence of new drugs developed by large domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies. Dr Pokrovsky detailed some of the work undertaken in his state-of-the-art laboratories. With help from specialists from the Genetic Engineering Centre, his team are developing immunochromatic and diagnostic tests to determine the progress of pregnancy in cows in the early stages. 10 contracts have already been concluded with enterprises across the Region for the sale of test systems. Dr Pokrovsky talked about their plans to develop a line of diagnostics for the needs of agriculture. Along with this, they are planning a large-scale collaboration with the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Gene Biology, to study transgenic animal breeds for use in agriculture.

After the detailed report, the Rector, Professor Oleg Polukhin, outlined the priorities for the Institute. The Belgorod REC demands the creation of a clinical base for research of veterinary drugs with business partners, and closer involvement with commercial partners.
