Belgorod State University has once again proven its significance on the global stage by being ranked among the top universities in the world for its contributions to socio-economic development.
According to the Times Higher èƵ (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) is positioned within the 1001-1500 range out of 2,389 institutions worldwide.
The THE Impact Rankings are compiled by the esteemed Times Higher èƵ agency, evaluating universities based on their efforts to achieve 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN General Assembly in 2015. These goals aim to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity by 2030.
This year, despite a notable increase in participating institutions – up by 350 – BelSU has maintained its ranking within the 1001-1500 group. In the Russian context, where 82 universities participated, BelSU improved its standing, moving into the 23-50 range, compared to last year’s 30-61 group.
BelSU Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya, a Doctor of Economics, the importance of continuous improvement amidst growing competition. “With the increasing number of participants, it’s essential for our university to constantly enhance our performance to maintain our position,” she stated. She also expressed her gratitude to the team for their dedication in achieving these ambitious goals despite various challenges.
In addition to its overall ranking, BelSU excelled in five specific areas. For 2025, it is set to enter the second quartile for three Sustainable Development Goals, retaining a position in the 301-400 group for Industrialization, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9). It also held steady in the 401-600 group for Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) and made significant strides in Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), improving from the 801-1000 group to the 601-800 group.
Furthermore, in the Quality èƵ (SDG 4) and Partnership for Sustainable Development (SDG 17) rankings, Belgorod National Research University secured a spot in the 1001-1500 group. Among Russian universities, it ranks between 21-49 for SDG 4 and between 17-42 for SDG 17.
“Congratulations to our entire team and our industrial and social partners. These results are a testament to our collective efforts,” commented Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya.
For context, the THE Impact Rankings rely on data provided by universities and bibliometric information from Elsevier, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of each institution’s contributions to sustainable development.
